Who We Are
Melanie Miguel-Courtad has been representing individuals in workers’ compensation claims and discrimination claims for 22 years. She has owned and operated the Law Offices of Melanie Miguel-Courtad since 2002. Her office has personal contact with each and every client. This ensures that YOU as the client gets the attention YOU deserve. Ms. Miguel-Courtad advocates for her clients and personally handles all of her clients’ hearings and court dates. She has handled thousands of cases in front of the Industrial Commission of Ohio. She also has a very active practice in workers’ compensation appeals to court and goes to trial on several cases per year. She represents clients in front of the EEOC and OCRC and Unemployment Compensation Review Commission. Her employment practice consists of filing lawsuits in Common Pleas Court and Federal Court. Melanie Miguel-Courtad has extensive experience in handling workers’ compensation claims. Not only has she handled claims that are filed administratively before the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation but has presented many cases in Court to a jury trial.
What is the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)? It is a Federal Law that permits certain employees to take off up to 12 weeks of work with a guarantee of job restoration if the employee returns to work within the allotted time.
Most employees who work overtime at their jobs are protected under the Fair Labor Standards Act and Ohio Laws. Employees who work over 40 hours in a workweek are generally required to pay their employee at a rate of at least one and one-half times their regular rate. The law exempts certain employees who meet certain legal requirements.
